Chairperson biography: Amy Corrigan, Director of Education, ACRES.
Amy Corrigan is Director of Education and Director of Cruelty-Free Living Campaigns for ACRES (Animal Concerns Research and Education Society). She has a degree in Zoology from Sheffield University in the U.K. and has worked in the animal protection field in Asia for over 8 years, previously working with the Wildlife Friends of Thailand before joining ACRES in 2005.
Amy is responsible for developing all educational programmes and materials for ACRES and promoting cruelty-free lifestyles through a number of projects. Amy is also involved in ACRES' captive animal welfare work and has written several scientific reports on the welfare of captive animals.
Amy's passions are promoting an animal-friendly lifestyle and vegetarianism, speaking up for farm animals, laboratory animals and captive wild animals and instilling compassion for all animals in the youngest members of society. She has a particular soft spot for bears, gibbons, whales, horses and donkeys.
Panellists biographies: Elodie Guillon, WSPA.
Elodie Guillon has taken over the position of Education Manager at WSPA at the Bangkok office. Elodie has a BA in Business administration and a Masters degree in International Development. Over the past seven years, she has acquired strong experience in education, both in delivering classes and managing educational programmes for disadvantaged children in Asia . Elodie has been a teacher for the Volunthai project in Thailand which implements English camps for rural schools. There she delivered English activities and trained local teachers in using play based educational activities. Following this experience Elodie worked for over two years as a Kindergarten teacher at a bilingual Thai/English School. More recently she has been managing educational programmes for international NGOs aimed at children affected by the 2004 tsunami in Indonesia and India . Elodie believes that delivering animal welfare education to the next generation is key to bringing about lasting positive change in the attitude of society towards animals.
Saba Rathore, ACRES.
Saba Rathore is a graduate of Rutgers University in New Jersey . She has a Masters of Education in the English-Language Arts, and is currently working part-time for ACRES as an Education officer, as well as working at a local international school.
Saba also has a strong passion for working with wildlife. As an Animal Handler at Woodlands Wildlife Refuge in New Jersey , she worked closely with and helped rehabilitate Black bears, Red foxes, raccoons, opossums, bats, squirrels, rabbits, and turtles. Her experience at the refuge changed her outlook on life and her career.
Working as an Education Officer at ACRES keeps her connected to her purpose in life: to spread awareness of and to appreciate, learn, and understand the importance of creation.
Rainbow Zhu Ke, Education Manager, Animals Asia Foundation.
Rainbow Zhu Ke grew up in China . Previously the founding member of the first English magazine in southwest China , his rich media development and experience assisted his later work in Animals Asia, where he is now leading the foundation's China team of PR and Education. In the last six years in Animals Asia, Rainbow has overseen various education programmes in China . He helped to establish the popular “Dr. Dog” and “Professor Paws” programmes in Chengdu , Sichuan Province, which demonstrate how much companion animals can be helpful to the community. His work with Animals Asia's China Bear Rescue programme sees the ongoing engagement of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, academics, celebrities, university staff and students and the general public towards accelerating the cessation of the bear farming industry.
